We're chartering a helicopter, dumping 800 golf balls onto a green, and live-streaming the whole thing. All to support South Shore University Hospital.

The SSUH Charity Golf Outing is an annual tradition. This year, for reasons we still don't fully understand, they put us in charge of a helicopter. On June 8 at 7pm, streaming live on Instagram @thepizzeria.ny, we're dropping 800 numbered golf balls onto the green. Ball closest to the pin wins $8,000 from the 50/50 raffle. Farthest from the pin wins a year of free pies, on us.

The golf ball that lands closest to the pin takes home $8,000, the winning half of the 50/50 raffle. The other half goes to South Shore University Hospital.

In just 5 years, we've grown to 8 locations across Long Island. This year, South Shore University Hospital named us their honoree, joining the ranks of Entenmann's and The Haugland Group, which still feels like a typo. We're not letting it go to waste. We're bringing the helicopter, the pilot, 800 numbered golf balls, and a year of free pies for whoever lands farthest from the pin.

The Fine Print

Everything you need to know before the drop on June 8.

Do I need to tune in live?

Nope. Buy a ball from anywhere. We'll contact winners by phone and email after the drop. But watching live on Instagram is way more fun.

How many balls can I buy?

As many as you'd like. More balls = more chances to win. More balls = more support for South Shore University Hospital.

When and where is the drop?

June 8, 2026 at 7pm, streaming live on Instagram at @thepizzeria.ny.

What if the weather is bad on June 8?

The drop is happening, just maybe not on June 8. If conditions ground the helicopter, we'll post a rain date right here on the site and alert all buyers. Your ball stays in play, same number, new day.

Where does the money go?

Half of the raffle pot goes to South Shore University Hospital. The other half is the $8,000 prize for the ball closest to the pin.

What if all 800 balls don't sell?

The drop happens either way. If we don't sell out, the Pizzeria's charitable entity, the GAITE Initiative, will backstop the prize pool to guarantee the full $8,000 grand prize for closest to the pin.

How are winners chosen?

Every ball is numbered. After the drop, we measure distance to the pin on camera. The closest wins $8,000, the farthest wins free pizza for a year.

What if two balls tie for closest to the pin?

In the rare case of a tie, the $8,000 grand prize is split evenly between the tied winners.

How will I know my ball number(s)?

Every ball is assigned a random number the moment you buy it. Head to the Find Your Numbers section above, enter the email you used at checkout, and your balls will pop right up. We'll also email all buyers a final confirmation before the drop.
